You might feel a little isolated. Most motels are fairly large and your room may be a long way from the motel office and there might not be a lot of people on your floor. Of course the most worrisome time when staying in a motel is at night. If someone knocks on your door, ask who it is before opening and be sure to have the security latch intact that allows you to only open the door a couple of inches to see who it is and what they want. Be sure to keep them all latched when you're in the room.
There are usually 2 or 3 security locks. First of all, be sure all the locks work properly on your motel room door. So what can you do to take precautions when you're staying in a motel? You don't know the area and you don't know whether the crime rate is high or low. You might have to stay in a motel somewhere along the way and although there are many and most have good security measures, it's still a little unnerving to be staying somewhere you aren't familiar with.
